Circuit Court in three numbered divisions or New Castle City Court: naming the right one is the first step of a Henry County search. Start with a party name or complete case number in the statewide public case system for Henry County, Indiana, check a hearing through the state hearing calendar, or contact the Clerk in New Castle when an online entry or document is unavailable. The Clerk and the court keep the chronological case record in the state's case-management system. Online is the summary. A Henry County court docket search that reaches the Clerk has the record.

The 33 Prefix and Henry Case Numbers

Every Indiana case number encodes its filing court. Henry County cases begin with county code 33. The next segment names the court. 33C01, 33C02, and 33C03 are the three Circuit Courts, and 33H01 is New Castle City Court. After that come the year, a case-type code, and a sequence number. Here IF means infraction. CM means misdemeanor.

Court Dockets: What They Show

The CCS lays out a case at a glance. It covers the court and case number, filing date, case type, parties, attorneys, judicial officer, charges or claims, hearings, orders, financial events, and any public disposition information. Entries appear by date. A ruling date and an entry date may differ. But a docket line proves only that an event was recorded; it may not include the filed document or explain the legal effect.

Case NumberCounty, court, year, case type, and sequence, such as a number beginning 33C03.
PartiesPublic names and roles, subject to confidentiality rules.
Docket Entries / FilingsDated filings, notices, orders, appearances, service, and financial events.
Hearing SettingsDate, time, hearing type, court, and sometimes location.

DispositionJudgments, dismissals, sentences, or other recorded outcomes when public.

MyCase Shows the CCS, Not Every PDF

Common mistake: an event line without a document link does not mean the filing is missing. Indiana's online-document rules vary by case type, user access, and confidentiality. The Clerk may hold a public document that MyCase does not display remotely.

The CCS pinpoints the event and date. Use it to request the document from the Clerk, and say whether a plain or certified copy is needed for an official use. Sealed, confidential, expunged, juvenile, adoption, and other excluded records stay under Indiana's Access to Court Records Rules, and a general request cannot override those limits.

Henry County Courts and Their Dockets

Henry County divides its court work even inside a unified Circuit Court system. Local allocation rules send most felonies to Courts 1 and 2. The broad civil and family matters go there too. Court 3 is different. It carries misdemeanors, infractions, small claims, evictions, and Level 6 felonies, among other assigned work. New Castle City Court is separate too. As the 33H01 court, it handles city traffic and ordinance cases.

The county's Courts and Legal directory helps with the rest. It gathers the local office routes in one official location.

That directory helps you spot the right office, but the case number and allocation rules decide the docket.

The official Circuit Court 1 page supplies the division's current local contact route.

Match that office page to a 33C01 case before you request a record or confirm a hearing.

The county also posts an official Circuit Court 2 page.

It anchors the 33C02 docket. The division also runs Henry's Adult Drug Court and Veterans Court programs. For the heavy misdemeanor, traffic, small-claims, and eviction volume, check the county's Circuit Court 3 page.

That page's scope explains why so many Henry County searches land on 33C03 instead of the other divisions.

Why Circuit Court 3 Has More Filings

Indiana's official 2024 workbook counted 10,621 new filings across Henry's four live courts. Circuit Court 3 alone recorded 7,164. Court 1 came in at 1,817, Court 2 at 1,398, and New Castle City Court at 242. These are incoming cases, not unique people or outcomes. Court 3's share tracks its assignment. The court took in 4,403 infractions, 1,179 misdemeanors, 866 small claims, 258 evictions, and 183 Level 6 felonies.

Read the court identifier. Don't treat Henry County as one big calendar. A traffic or small-claims search usually points to 33C03, while broad civil or higher-level felony matters land in C01 or C02.

Court Dates and Settings in Henry County

Court dates can shift fast. A hearing may appear in the CCS and in Indiana's State Hearing Calendar. Read the hearing type, the scheduled date and time, the court, and the location. A continued, reset, vacated, or canceled entry changes things. So don't rely on an older printed date after a later order. The county also keeps a public event calendar. That one lists government events, not judicial settings. For a fuller walkthrough, see the Henry County court schedule page. Then confirm any time-sensitive appearance with the assigned court or Clerk. New Castle City Court separately posts a recurring Friday 1:00 p.m. session. A specific citation or order controls.

Historic Courthouse, Modern Justice Center

Historic Henry County Courthouse official record
Henry's 1869 courthouse remains part of the county's record history, while current court business is centered at the Justice Center.

Henry County was formed in 1822, and its Isaac Hodgson-designed courthouse was completed in 1869. Today's Circuit Courts and Clerk operate from the Henry County Justice Center at 1215 Race Street. Older court research may lead to Clerk-held volumes, microfilm, newspapers, and the Indiana State Library's Henry County research guide, even when a scanned document is absent from MyCase.

The digital transition is visible in the docket codes. Henry's unified courts took effect in 2011, and the three Circuit Courts entered Odyssey that December. New Castle City Court joined Odyssey and MyCase on April 7, 2023. Historical Superior or Knightstown Town Court identifiers may therefore appear in older material without representing a current search destination.

The Indiana State Library's Henry County guide identifies official leads for older local research.

Archival leads like these add options but never replace the official court file.

Docket Access Under Indiana Law

Indiana Administrative Rule 9 starts with openness. Court records are public by default. A law or court rule can still carve out exceptions. Remote MyCase access can be narrower than what the courthouse terminal shows. The Indiana Access to Public Records Act shapes request procedure and response timing too. Judicial rules govern court-record access specifically.

Key Rules:

Access to Court Records Rule 4 - establishes the general right of access.

Access to Court Records Rule 5 - identifies records excluded from public access.

Access to Court Records Rule 9 - provides a process to seek access to excluded material.

Trial Rule 77 - addresses the CCS, judgment/order record, and clerk entries.

Public, Restricted, Sealed, or Expunged

A missing case can mean several things. Maybe the search was too broad. Maybe the name was entered differently. The filing may not have reached MyCase, or the record may be restricted. Juvenile, adoption, mental-health, and confidential personal data can be excluded. So can sealed filings and expunged criminal information, which may appear only in limited form. Protection may cover one document, one data field, or the entire case.

First retry with a full case number and the correct Henry court. Then contact the Clerk. Give the case number, party name, approximate year, and the event you need. If the record is excluded, Rule 9 sets out a verified petition and court-review process. Staff cannot simply release protected material at the counter.

How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records

Henry County Clerk Jenny Grubbs maintains the CCS and the Circuit Court case files. Ask for a document by name. Give the case number, assigned court, event or document name, and date. Say whether the copy should be plain or certified. Note your preference for electronic or paper delivery. Ask about per-page, certification, search, mailing, and transcript charges before paying, since the Clerk posts no Henry-specific ordinary-copy price sheet.

Every Route to a Henry Docket

Online access is only one channel. MyCase offers public case information and some documents. The State Hearing Calendar handles hearing-search controls. The Clerk's Suite 120 counter handles in-person requests during regular business hours. Email works too, at clerkrequests@henrycounty.in.gov, and the phone line is 765-529-6401. No ordinary mail or fax copy process is posted. Confirm the accepted method before sending payment or original paperwork.

For a recording or transcript, name the court, date, and case number. Contact the assigned court reporter through the court or Clerk. Older records may need a paper or microfilm search. Federal cases arising from Henry County sit outside MyCase. Use PACER and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana for those. Each channel answers a different question. Treat them as distinct tools rather than interchangeable databases.

A copy request works best when it names one identifiable item. Include the full case number, the assigned court, and the CCS event title. Add the event date, the names needed to confirm the file, and a return phone number or email address. Say whether a readable plain copy will serve the purpose or the Clerk must certify it. Ask for the current total and accepted payment before sending money. A filing fee, a search charge, and a per-page copy charge are all different costs. So are certification, postage, and a court-reporter transcript.

The county traffic process is its own route. A ticket can be paid through the county-authorized PayGov handoff. Approved payment at the Clerk's counter works as well, or mail under the county instructions. Contesting it takes the denial selection and your requested contact details. A trial date is then assigned. A payment or disposition may later show in the CCS. The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles keeps the separate driver record. The Clerk cannot issue an official BMV driving record.

When online services fail, save the last confirmed information instead of guessing. Note the portal, case number, court, time of the search, and the entry that raised the question. Call the assigned court for an imminent setting. Use the Clerk for a docket entry, public document, or certified copy. Indiana also posts technology notices for MyCase, Odyssey, e-filing, and public.courts services. One system-wide interruption can explain why several searches fail at once.

City-by-City Court Dockets in Henry County

New Castle has its own city court. It is the one Henry County city on the Rule 8 list. Middletown, Knightstown, Spiceland, and Shirley hold no separate live local court identifiers. A town name by itself will not get you to a docket. Use MyCase to search for the named Henry Circuit Court, and confirm which court issued the case. Shirley sits on the Hancock-Henry line. Getting the county code right matters even more for a docket search.

Cell phones are not permitted inside the Justice Center, and all three Circuit Courts close for lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m., so plan a records-counter or courtroom visit around that midday gap. The county has not published parking, accessibility, or public-terminal details, so calling the Clerk ahead of a visit is the safer route.
